Review: Babeland Body Massage Candle

I’m a blogger of sex, a wife, a mother. All of you know that. What you may not know, though, is that by trade I am a professional massage therapist. So, I was super excited when Babeland gave me the opportunity to review their Body Massage Candle!

The idea is that the candle wax melts into a mixture of oil that you can use during a massage as a warm lubricant. I’m going to admit, I was very curious to see if it would work as intended…. after all, I use plain old grape seed oil during a massage.

I had my concerns as a professional–would it be waxy and gross? Is it going to be too hot? Is it going to smell funky? I can safely say there’s no such thing as the Babeland Body Massage Candle!

I noticed how nice it smelled when I first opened the package. The scented candle from Pashmina had a powdery, slightly floral scent, but not above the top. It wasn’t a subtle scent, but it wasn’t overwhelming either.

The candle is white and about 3 oz in a glass jar. On the outside of the jar there are no markings, giving no indication that it is anything but a decorative scented candle.

I lit the candle (Babeland provided with matches. Nice touch!) and let the wax melt for a couple of minutes. The scent filled the room slightly, and the wax turned into a warm oil that I could pour into my hands comfortably. It didn’t burn me and I was very surprised that in my hands it didn’t feel like wax at all. Shea butter (and fragrance) made of soy wax and shea butter, it felt like oil.

I used my husband as a guinea pig after rubbing my hands together to create an even oil layer. I applied the oil to his shoulders and found that I could give a 15-minute shoulder massage, no problem, with a small amount (as pictured on the left, if you can see the puddle in my hand). I never had to pour more into my hand constantly to avoid a dry massage.

He said it felt very nice. I asked him how it felt. He felt nothing but a regular massage–that’s what I was looking for!

The only downside is that afterwards your hands might feel a little sticky, but that’s nothing that wouldn’t fix a quick rinse under the sink.

I’m probably not going to use this candle at work, but I think it’s a nice treat for my husband’s foot rubbing or my own back rubbing. I enjoy it so much. Once again, thank you to Babeland for giving me the opportunity to review this wonderful candle!
